TuneUp

If figuring out who sings “Track 1” on your best friend’s Summertime Mix is driving you crazy, this downloadable software is for you. TuneUp uses iTunes and the Gracenote Global Media Database to figure out the “audio fingerprint” of mis- or unlabeled tunes in your MP3 music library. Then the program automatically fills it in and adds the corresponding album artwork. Try 100 song “cleans” and 50 album cover adds for free. If you’re hooked, upgrade to a $30 TuneUp Gold membership for unlimited cleans and covers. More info at TuneUpMedia.com.

I love this software, it works wonders. That said, I do get crashes of Explorer about once a day. I usually let it run while I’m doing other stuff, and change out the queue every so often.  I have an enormous music collection, a couple hundred thousand songs, somewhere North of 800K. I have used TuneUp multiple times a day, for the past 3 months, hoping that one day I will complete my task of organizing the entire thing. I would say that for every 1K songs, TuneUp doesn’t find 5-10, which is awesome considering the sheer volume of obscure and completely blank ID3 tags that I have. I do have one SERIOUS vexation – They will only allow 1 transfer between computers! I reformat maybe once every Quarter (Windows), and I don’t know what I am going to do coming up in December. I will NOT re-buy the software, that is for sure. It would be a shame for them to lose my business over a licensing issue – Boo on them.

NOTE: I also have TidySongs, but when it comes to performance, I highly recommend TuneUp over TidySongs..
